2016 Fall | First Student – Personal Belongings Transportation Note
Dear Richland Parents and Guardians,
We have been in conversations with our contracted transportation provider, First Student, over the past couple of weeks regarding capacity on our different bus routes. As we get into full swing of the athletic and activity season, First Student has asked that we communicate their Personal Belongings Transportation Policy to all students and families who use First Student busses to go to-and-from school.
First Student Personal Belongings Transportation Policy:
Any equipment/materials brought onto the bus must be done so by the student and all personal belongings must fit on the student’s lap and stay on their lap for the duration of the trip. Personal belongings include: lunch container, backpack, curricular projects, sports equipment, musical instruments, and any other items needed for school. Items may not be stored in the aisle during any trip.
During the first few weeks of school, First Student has been more lenient of this policy. Beginning Wednesday, October 12th, this policy will begin to be enforced by each First Student employee. We cannot make exceptions to this rule as it would compromise the safety of our students. In the event that a need occurs to transport an over-sized item, or a number of items that cannot be transported safely on the lap of the student, it will be necessary for that student to find an alternate means of transportation to-and/or-from school on these days.
We appreciate your understanding and complying with this policy of First Student, as it is in the interest of the safety of our children.
